Commenting on the release and return to the UK of Guantanamo prisoner and London resident Binyam Mohamed, London MEP Sarah Ludford, who as the Liberal Democrat European justice & human rights spokeswoman has campaigned strongly against torture and CIA extraordinary rendition' said

"While Binyam's release after a terrible 7-year ordeal is a great relief and a tribute to his lawyers, it is only the beginning for the full discovery of UK government collusion in Bush's abusive, illegal and ineffective 'war on terror'.

"The Brown government must stop stalling and now publish the documents relevant to Mr Mohamed's case, and to those of other individuals where M15 seems to have colluded in torture."

"The Intelligence & Security Committee of senior MPs must reopen its previous inquiry and this time not allow itself to get fobbed off by MI5 denials and evasions as it was 2 years ago, or censored by the prime minister. The examination by the Attorney-General into possible criminal responsibility of ministers as well as officials must have a speedy conclusion."

"Only full exposure of the truth of British official culpability alongside the US will deter a repeat of this morally corrupt chapter in New Labour's history."
